FREDDIE MERCURY - 

A ROCK MUSIC legend

Freddie Mercury was born in the African island of Zanzibar in 1946. His real name was Farrokh Bulsar, and his family came from India. He went to school in India, near Mumbay.

He hated his front teeth because they came out of his mouth – the cause was that he had two extra teeth! At school, everybody called him Freddie. He was bullied for his aspect. He was very shy and didn’t have many friends.

He liked table-tennis, hockey and boxing. He loved artand he made a lot of drawings for friends and relatives. He had a real musical talent, so he started to learn the pianowhen he was 7 years old. He also sang in the school choir and played parts in school theatrical productions. He was an excellent piano player.

  

When he was 18, there were political problems in Zanzibar, so he and hisfamily had to move to London. He studieddesign in an Art school there and sang in a blues band in his free time.

He met Roger Taylor and Brian May, members of a band called Smile, and became the vocalist of the band. They changed the band’s name into Queen and Freddie changed his surname into Mercury.

 

He fell in love with Mary Austin and went to live with her. The bassist John Deacon joined the band in 1971. Their first album was Queen, but the big success arrived with their third album, A Night atthe Opera and the single BohemianRhapsody.

In 1975 Freddie was already very famous for his extraordinary voice, his extravagances and his performances during concerts. Queen had tours in Europe, Japan and the USA.

 

All the members of the band wrote songs and decided about the albums together, but Freddie was the front-man of the band. Their big success continued all over the world. They had a concert in Sao Paulo in Brasil with 230.000 fans! Their performance during the Live Aidcharity concertin 1975, where a lot of artists sang to raise money for starving people in Africa, was epic. One billion people watched the concert on TV!

 

The band started making videos of their songs, something new for that time.

Freddie worked with Dave Clark to create the successful musical“Time”; he danced in a classical ballet show in London with the Royal Ballet and recorded some songs with his favourite opera singer,  Monserrat Caballè. The song Barcelona became the anthem for the 1992 Olympics. He loved parties, having lots of friends and… cats!

 

He also released records as a soloist but worked with Queen for all his life. After seven years of marriage with Mary, they stopped living together but they remained best friends. He had many partners after that, women and men, but Mary was the love of his life. She worked with him and helped him when he discovered that he had AIDS. Freddie didn’t want anybody to know about his disease and kept it secret until 1991. 

The members of the band and his last partner, Jim Hutton, also knew he was ill but they worked together until the end. He announced to his fans he had AIDS the day before his death. At that time there were no therapies to fight this terrible disease. He died at the age of 45.

20 years after his death, he is still considered one of the greatest artists of the history of rock music. There is a fantastic musical about Queen’s songs, We Will Rock You and a very nice biopic with the actor Rami Malek playing Freddie, Bohemian Rhapsody.

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE

Harry Potter

and the philosopher's stone

This film is a fantasy film.

It was shot in 2001 in the U.K.; the film director was Chris Columbus.

The main actors were Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger).

It is adapted from the book “Harry Potter and the philosopher's stone” by J.K. Rowling.

PLOT

Harry was a boy, he was 11 years old and he lived with his uncle Vernon, his aunt Petunia and his cousin Dudley. He thought he was a normal boy, but one day of September a strange man came to their home: he was very big and his name was Hagrid. 

Hagrid told Harry he was a wizard and that year he would go to the magic and witchcraft school of Hogwarts.

Harry went with Hagrid to Diagon Alley, which was a magical street with a lot of shops, 
and there they bought the material that was necessary for that school year.

During the travel on a magic train, he met Ron and Hermione.

In Hogwarts, the students were sorted in four houses: Slytherin, Ravenclaw, 

Hufflepuff and Gryffindor; Harry was put in the last one.

From that moment, Harry and his friends had a lot of adventures, for example 

the young guys fought and won Voldemort, an evil wizard. 

Harry Potter found a magical stone with super powers and killed one of his teachers 

who was a supporter of Lord Voldemort. Obviously, he did all this with the help of his 

friends.

The first time I watched this film was one year ago and I was at home with my 

sister that made pop-corns.

I like it because I love fantasy films.

I suggest everybody to see it because it was well shot and it has got a wonderful 

plot.

THE INVISIBLE BOY

The Invisible Boy is a fantasy film.

It was shot in 2014 in Italy and France.

The film director was Gabriele Salvatores.

The main actor was Ludovico Giraldello, Gabriele Silenzi in the film.

The film was adapted from the book “Il ragazzo invisibile” by Alessandro Fabbri, Stefano Sardo and Ludovico Rampoldi.

Michele Silenzi was a shy, adopted, thirteen years old boy and he lived with his single mum – because his dad was dead.

School bullies played tricks on him. He bought a cool costume for a Halloween party for 50 euros, but the bullies stole it. So he went to buy a costume in an obscure Chinese store. 

Bullies made him ashamed at the party showing his friend Stella that he secretly filmed her on his phone. Michele wanted to become invisible and when, the next morning, he didn’t see himself in the mirror, he achieved his dream. He was really invisible! 

After Stella’s artistic gymnastics training ended, he went to the women’s dressing room but the girls surprised him.

Three children of the school disappeared and one of them was Stella. In the meantime, a mysterious mand told Michele he was his real dad and he also told him that he and Michele were members of a secret Russian group called the Specials. All members of this group had superpowers.

The organization tried to identify Michele by kidnapping children from his school.  At this point of the story, Michele learnt to control his invisibility. After he won the leader of the Specials, he saved the children. And then his father wiped everybody’s memory.

The film ended with a big revelation: the leader of the Specials was Michele’s real mum!

The final scene shows Michele’s real mum informed by other Specials that they didn’t catch Michele but they located his sister in Morocco.

I saw this film with my brother and my mum at the cinema.

I liked it because I love superhero films and because it has got an open ending.

I suggest everybody to see it because it is for every age.

Tania Cagnotto

Tania Cagnotto was born on 15th May 1985 in Bolzano.

She is an Italian diver, she is the best Italian diver!!!

Tania’s dad, Giorgio Cagnotto, was a fantastic diver in the 1970s.

He won two silver medals at the Olympics. Now he is the coach of his daughter.

Tania’s mum, Carmen Casteiner, was for eight times champion of the platform. Now she is the technical trainer of her daughter.

When Tania was only 6 years old, she did her first dive and she understood that diving was her life.

In 2000 she positioned 7th in the 3m trampoline diving championship.

She won the gold medal at the European championship of Berlin in 2002.

In 2003 she won the gold medal at Stockholm and she joined the Guardia of Finanzia diving team.

In 2005 at Montreal she honored Italy winning the bronze medal in the trampoline diving championship.


In 2008 Tania in Peking positioned 5th! These results have never been obtained from other Italian divers.

In 2009 Tania conquered the bronze medal at the World championship in Rome. But the real surprise was the silver medal for her and Francesca Dallapè in the synchronized diving competition.

That was the first silver medal in the Italian story of synchronized diving competition.

In 2010 Tania and Francesca won the gold medal at Budapest in Synchronized diving competition; Tania won the gold medal in the 1m trampoline diving too.

Today Tania is 26 years old and still is a fantastic diver!!!!!

Raimondo Vianello

Raimondo Vianello was born in Rome, Italy in 1922. He was an Italian actor, writer and television presenter. He worked first in Rai then in Mediaset. He married Sadra Mondaini, her friend in life and partner in shows.

He worked first with Tognazzi, then with his wife Sandra. He was the prince of laughter, he was never vulgar. He acted with Totò in some films.

He was a gentleman of the TV, he was a famous face of the Italian television.

His best successes in theater were:
